255- How to Get More Leads and Customers

Every business needs customers to survive, but not every business is great at getting them. This article looks at 3 simple ways you can generate more leads and turn them into customers.

How to Get More Leads and Customers

When in business, your primary aim is to generate business. To do that you must continuously gather leads and convert them into customers.

That's hard work and at times daunting. What happens when your leads start to drop?

The internet is a fantastic tool for lead generation. Using your website, email marketing, newsletters and blogs you can create interest in your business and cultivate leads. However, that doesn't mean they are the most effective tools you have available.

The most powerful tool your business is a happy customer. If your customers love you and your service they are likely to tell their friends and colleagues about you. That kind of word of mouth marketing is worth its weight in gold.

That's all well and good, but how do you generate referrals?

To be honest the answer is simple - good old fashioned customer service.

Education

Although providing your customers with the product or service they need is important, so too is educating them. Writing about your business is one way to do that, but it should also become part of your company's culture.

When speaking with a customer, educate them about your product and show them how to get the most from it. Of course, they also need to know that you'll always be there for them if they have a query.

Talking

Many internet business don't have the luxury of meeting their customers, so continuous contact offers a great customer experience. Staying in touch throught the order process is vital to keep them informed so they know when their product will be received.

But contact shouldn't stop once the order has been fulfilled. A regular newsletter is a great way to stay in touch and let your customer know what's happening, what offers are coming up and any other information that may be of value to them.

Going one step further

Other than making sure their ordering process goes without a hitch, its the small things that make a difference. How about slipping in an extra little gift with the order (it could be something as simple as a small bag of sweets, something the online sports store Wiggle do), or even a free sample of a new product, or one that's related to the one they've just bought.

Follow up

A lot of companies do the bare minimum and then, once the order has been sent, forget about their customers.

Stand out by following up the order to make sure they're happy with everything. Ask for feedback and if they were unhappy with anything, put it right and send them a little something to thank them for letting you know.

Even a simple handwritten 'thank you' goes a long way.

By making simple changes like these your customers will keep coming back and they'll bring their friends too.
