Mobile Websites: Why Do We Need Them?

Do you know why businesses are planning more and more mobile websites? The answer is simple. The mobile sites define the future of the "Web-based marketing", and these sites mean good business. Nowadays, it is impossible to go too far without hearing about "Mobile Net Marketing".

 "Mobile net marketing" is all about approaching and addressing existing consumer and probable segments through SMS, mobile Apps, area centric marketing and mobile sites on cellular equipment of targeted consumers. Cellphone oriented sites have become a necessity due to several reasons including the following:

The modern portable gizmos offer several inbuilt facilities and applications. The handy equipment has encouraged people to access information quite differently. Now, internet users do not sit in front of their "Windows" or "Mac" based desktops or laptops, but instead use the android and jellybean on their portable handheld sets. The touch screen concept is fast replacing the clicks on keyboards and mice.

The noticeable change in usage pattern has proven those experts wrong who used to predict that the Cellular site concept may never take off. Today, those very specialists are simply rejecting their own previously held views and opinions.

Many experts feel that the way Internet Users are fast switching over to the smaller and more compact devices like iPads, and iPhones, the sale of cellular equipment would overtake the desktops in a few years from now. In the fast changing scenario, simply sticking to "Traditional desktop based sites" would not be in a position to fetch desired results in form of healthy customer traffic. This would adversely affect the sales of the concerning businesses.

Conventional portals take too long to load on cellular apparatus: There is a basic difference in the composition of a conventional web portal and a mobile site. Although even today, while designing web portals, developers keep desktops in mind. 

They consistently ignore the following facts:

Desktop websites are not meant for small screen devices: The conventional sites can never function normally on the smaller screens, and these often behave erratically on the portable apparatus.

Conventional Site designing fundamentals are grossly different from the ones deployed in cellular oriented sites: This is the bottom line of the issue. The regular site pages are written in heavy Java scripts and Ajax, etc.. On the other hand, anything designed in a package other than XHTML is beyond the capacity of the handheld devices.

The Flash and Video Content: 

The traditional sites also have Flash and Video content, which take ages to load on a small apparatus. This can frustrate the visitors and send them away from the site.

Difference in the resolution is the main issue: 

The equation is simple and straightforward. It is difficult to fit a "Traditional Net Site" into a mobile screen. Users trying to access a traditional site from a Cellular apparatus can never get to experience a similar convenience, like they would get on a desktop or a laptop. The conventional portals fit accurately on desktops, but this cannot be said for cellular phones. There is a yawning gap between a conventional 1024 x 768 arrangement and a 320 x 396 display.

Most of the Cellular sets have a 320 x 396 pixel arrangement. The difference in pixel resolution creates a wide wedge between the traditional computers and portable apparatus. Many people try to deploy impractical ideas by trying to bridge the gap between the desktops and cellular device display arrangements by simply taking measures to adjust sites as per mobile configuration. This can never work and achieving desired results from this adjustment is impossible.

Different Navigational Arrangement: Besides the resolution, the navigational structure of the "Mobile based sites" is also a major issue. While, the conventional sites navigate vertically, the navigation on the portable apparatus has a horizontal, i.e. left to right, or vice versa arrangement.

Before deferring your decision of foraying into mobile sites, ask yourself some basic questions. How would visitors to your adapted mobile portal, feel,

If they have to wait endlessly for a site to load?

If traditional web portals behave erratically on their mobile sets?

If they are not able to access most of the functions of desktop portals on their cellphones?

In future, the mobile sites will hold the key to success in "Web-based marketing". It has become necessary to adapt rapidly to the changing aspirations of the market.
